October

The journal event for October is that I saw an Optomotrist and he has prescribed reading/sewing glasses. This is an event because I have always dreaded having to wear glasses but funny thing when it came to the crunch all the dread went out of it....if wearing glasses means that I can see more clearly than I will wear glasses.

I have Chosen to represent this by overlaying a crazy block with a piece of Organza with a pair of glasses on it with the lenses of the glasses cut out so that just that portion of the cq block can be seen clearly.

I did have a problem when it came to permanently stitching the organza over the block because despite using colours that I don't usually use and machine embroidering it, I did like the block and did wonder if it was a shame to cover it permanently when I could still have achieved the effect by binding the organza seperatly. I asked opinions on email lists and most said that the organza should be stitched over the block permanently and in the end that seemed the right thing for the peice but you, thanks to the wonders of our modern world, can still see the scan of the uncovered block. And if you scroll down below the uncovered block you will find a miniature that I have made useing the same Fabrics and colour scheme, I adapted the embellisments to suit its 3 inch x 4 1/2 inch size and to personalize it for a gift.
